Amazon's Jeff Bezos Splits From Wife MacKenzie After 25 Years of Marriage

Jeff Bezos, who founded Amazon, is worth an estimated $140 billion.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos is splitting from his wife, MacKenzie, after 25 years together, the couple announced Wednesday.

"We want to make people aware of a development in our lives," read a statement from the pair. "As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends."

Bezos and MacKenzie met in 1992 when she worked for him at a hedge fund in New York City. They married the following year, then moved to Seattle to start Amazon.

Although they struck a friendly tone in their statement, a lot of money and assets are involved in the breakup.

Bezos, the richest man in the world, is currently worth an estimated $140 billion. In Washington state, where the two live, MacKenzie is entitled to half of his fortune, meaning the divorce settlement could be the largest in history.

Bezos turns 55 on Friday.
