Arsonist Caught on Camera in Attempt to Torch California Planned Parenthood

The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward for info leading to an arrest.

A dramatic arson attempt was caught on camera at a California Planned Parenthood location and authorities have turned to the public for help with capturing the suspect.

Watsonville PD has released surveillance footage taken in the early morning hours of July 20 that they say shows a suspect disguised in a hoodie as he or she approaches the facility, douses it in accelerant, and flees as the building begins to burn.

Per a police statement on Facebook, the fire smoldered for several hours before a community member noticed smoke coming from the building and called 911.

Area firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes. The fire caused moderate damage to the building, officials said.

Local authorities are working with CalFire arson investigators, ATF agents, the FBI, and U.S. Marshalls to identify the arsonist.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest.

"At this point, we’re asking for the community’s help in identifying the person seen on surveillance footage," the police statement read. "Although you cannot see the suspect’s face, we’re hoping someone will recognize this person based off of his/her physical description, clothing and mannerisms."
