The 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards, just one of the almost 30 awards shows this season, attracted a large A-list crowd on Thursday, January 8th. Traditionally a more serious awards show, this year was no exception. The big winners were the dramas; Milk took home the Best Acting Ensemble award, and Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep shared the Best Actress award for Rachel Getting Married and Doubt. Perhaps the most poignant moment of the night was when director Chris Nolan accepted the Best Supporting Actor award for the late Heath Ledger.
Meanwhile, adding some serious glamour to the evening were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who seemed to be the main attraction at the awards. Angelina looked stunning in an oyster white Grecian gown, while Brad matched appropriately in his dark 3-piece suit. Both actors were up for awards, Brad for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Angelina for Changeling.
Brad almost didn't make the red carpet at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Earlier in the afternoon, he was riding his motorcycle around Hollywood and it died. An assistant had to take him home to change for his red carpet close up.
The red carpet was crowded with stars, who were getting back into the swing of awards season, and getting read for the upcoming Golden Globes.
Actress Freida Pinto told INSIDE EDITION how her life has changed after her critically acclaimed performance in Slumdog Millionaire, which won the Best Picture category. She marveled at the fact that she was standing right next to Clint Eastwood.
Clint lost his category to Sean Penn, who won the Best Actor statue for Milk. Anne Hathaway, who accepted the Best Actress award alone (co-winner Meryl Streep was absent), gave an emotional speech. Ben Stiller accepted the award for Best Comedy for his film Tropic Thunder, and Richard Gere was presented with the Joel Siegel award for work that contributes to the good of humanity.
The awards season won't be soon to slow. The Golden Globes, which have always been one of Hollywood's most glamorous affairs, will take place Sunday, January 11th, and will be broadcast live on NBC.
