INSIDE EDITION Goes INSIDE the 2009 Golden Globe Awards

Airdate : 1/12/2009

INSIDE EDITION was front and center on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for one of Hollywood's most exciting events, the Golden Globe Awards. On this one night every year both the worlds of television and film come together to celebrate the best in the business in an always glittery affair.

The biggest celebrities in the world packed the star-studded red carpet for a night of glitz and glamour.

Some of Hollywood's most stunning couple's walked the red carpet together. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt took a moment to wave to screaming fans. A beaming Beyonce enjoyed the evening with her husband Jay-Z.

Stopping briefly to chat with INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret, the superstar singer said she was "beyond excited" for the awards gala.

The mood at the Golden Globes is decidedly casual but the security was extra tight this year, causing delays for many celebrities walking down the red carpet.

The Office star Jenna Fisher said she was "stuck in security for 20 minutes," which prompted our Jim Moret to ask what the actress's had stashed inside her purse. Unabashed, Fisher opened up her clutch for INSIDE EDITION's cameras. (She had just lipstick, an ID, money and her phone!)

Many stars did make time to sign a giant Moet and Chandon champagne bottle, which will be auctioned off for charity.

Tom Hanks was literally running late, jogging down the red carpet to make sure he was in the theater as the show began.

Just minutes before opening the awards show, Jennifer Lopez, wearing a daring gold gown, rushed inside with husband Marc Anthony.

In the midst of the celebrity gridlock, INSIDE EDITION spotted Cameron Diaz greeting Leonardo DiCaprio with a kiss.

With wife Katie Holmes busy on Broadway, hubby Tom Cruise walked hand-in-hand with another special lady in his life, his mom. Immediately following Katie's last performance, the actress and daughter Suri made the cross-country dash to join Cruise for the Globe after-parties. Holmes looked especially festive in a gold mini-dress as she accompanied her husband to all the late night parties.

It was also a family affair for Miley Cyrus. Her father Billy Ray gushed about his daughter's nomination for Best Song. "It's an amazing feeling [of] pride," said the proud dad.

Actress Demi Moore, accompanied by husband Ashton Kutcher, proudly looked on as her daughter Rumor worked onstage as this year's Miss Golden Globe.

Frost Nixon star Frank Langela talked with INSIDE EDITION's Deborah Norville on the red carpet about the role he never imagined he would get to play. "I first saw [the script] two and half year ago, never dreaming I'd be standing here talking to you at the Golden Globes." The man who played the infamous former President seemed to love every exciting moment on the red carpet as did nominee Amy Adams who looked beautiful in black strapless.

NBC's veteran anchor Tom Brokaw was on-hand to introduce Frost Nixon, but was astonished by the red carpet chaos. "I can't get over the enormous number of reporters that are here."

Inside it was a big night for Alec Baldwin who picked up his second Best Actor Golden Globe for 30 Rock. The show was also honored as the Best Television Comedy Series.

30 Rock creator and star Tina Fey added another accomplishment to her amazing year when she picked up a Best Actress award. Backstage, Fey spoke about her whirlwind year. "It was an amazing year, especially from September to now. I was looking in the iPhoto of my computer...it was an insane few months."

It was an especially golden night for Kate Winslet who teared up after receiving two Globes in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress categories.

There was also some controversy when Borat star Sasha Baron Cohen took the stage to present. "This recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities. Even Madonna had to fire one of her personal assistants. Our thoughts go out to you, Guy Ritchie." When the crowd failed to react as he'd anticipated, Cohen shouted, "Oh come on!" His rant seemed to leave the star-studded crowd uncomfortable.

The night's most poignant moment came as the entire crowd gave a standing ovation when the late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Dark Knight.

There was another emotional highpoint when Mickey Rourke officially made his Hollywood comeback, winning Best Actor for his performance in The Wrestler.

The star opened up to INSIDE EDITION's Deborah Norville backstage about the enormous impact of the victory. "When you lose everything, all you really can do is talk to people or talk to God...like my Grandma always said, 'God helps people who help themselves." The star grew emotional with the mention of his grandmother.

In the 1980s, acclaimed roles in Body Heat and Diner made Rourke a prince of Hollywood. But his downhill slide was the subject of legend, as his once handsome face became disfigured by boxing, substance abuse and misguided plastic surgery.

"I lost a lot of trust with people, and it was all my own fault," continued Rourke. He said when given another chance he felt indebted to "give 'em everything I had."

His co-star Evan Rachel Wood says Rourke deserved all the acclaim he's getting. "No one wanted him for this...he's proved them so wrong. It's such sweet revenge," she said.

The underdog story Slumdog Millionaire hit the Golden Globe jackpot, sweeping four big awards including Best Dramatic Picture.

INSIDE EDITION catches viewers up on some of the more special moments that the television audience didn't see during the show. Brad and Angelina shared a loving kiss during a commercial break, while Tom Cruise caught up with Kate Winslet. Anne Hathaway tracked down her former co-star Meryl Streep for a chat. And, how's this for an unlikely group: Tom Hanks got to know the Jonas Brothers.
