Chick-fil-A Employee Searches for Prom Date With Sign Outside Restaurant

A message on the Florida Chick-fil-A's reader board reads, "Tanner needs a prom date! Details inside."

Not only can diners order chicken sandwiches and waffle fries at one Florida Chick-fil-A — they can also leave with a prom date.

Tanner Waters, a senior at Winter Springs High School, works at the restaurant part time.

When he confessed to his boss that he couldn’t find a date for his senior prom, manager Billy McClarnon decided to spread the word, arranging the letters on the chain restaurant’s outside sign to read: "Tanner needs a prom date! Details inside."

"I think it’s funny," Waters told WKMG. "You don't usually see your name on something like that."

He explained this all started after an unsuccessful search for a date led him to ask his boss to accompany him.

"No, I’m not going to prom with you," McClarnon replied. "But if you need some help, I’ll put it on the reader board for you.”

Waters agreed, responding, “That would be awesome. That would help me out a lot. It takes all the work out of finding a date.”

While Waters, who works three days a week while attending school, has had a hard time finding a date, he insists he would be good company.

“I’m a great person," he said. "I have a great personality. You’re going to have a great time with me. You get free dinner — someone is buying us dinner — it’s going to be a great night.”

And if he’s still not able to find a prom date by the end of the month, a co-worker has agreed to go with him.
