Three people died in a series of shootings in a rural California town.

At least four people are dead and two children are hurt after a series of shootings at multiple locations—including an elementary school—in Northern California Tuesday, according to reports.

The gunman was also shot and killed by police, according to reports.

The shooting reportedly started at a home in Tehama County, which is about 120 miles northeast of Sacramento, before moving to the elementary school at around 8 a.m., authorities said.

Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, said no one was killed at the school but said that a "number" of students were shot and wounded.

A 6-year-old child with two gunshot wounds was transported by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Redding and a second child was shot in the leg while riding in a pickup truck with a woman who was also shot, according to local reports.

All three are being treated for their injuries, reports said.

In total, there are seven crime scenes in and around the school, a Tehama County Sheriff spokesman said.

“It was right about 8 a.m. we had multiple shots fired in Rancho Tehama,” Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told KCRA. “That evolved to multiple victims and multiple shots at the school, at the elementary school.

"I am told at this point the suspected shooter is deceased by law enforcement bullets, that’s what I’m told.”

Students have been moved to a safe location at the school, authorities said.

About 100 students attend the school where the shooting took place, according to the school district.
