Herbert and Frances Delaigle died within just 12 hours of each other.

After spending more than seven decades of their lives together, an elderly husband and wife died on the same day.

Herbert Delaigle of Augusta, Georgia, was 94 years old when he died at 2:20 a.m. Friday morning.

Twelve hours later, his wife, Frances Delaigle, died at 2:20 p.m. Friday afternoon. She was 88.

"It's amazing how they were together for 71 years and now they are together in Heaven. What an amazing love story that is,” their family said in a statement shortly after their death.

The couple met when Frances was just 16 years old and Herbert was 22.

"Frances worked at a little cafe we had in Waynesboro named White Way Cafe," Herbert told WRDW in 2018. "I kept seeing her going in and out, in and out, and I had my eyes set on her. And then I finally got up the nerve to ask her if she would go out with me sometime."

The pair had their first date at the movie theater, and were married a year later.

"I asked her will she have me as her husband and she said, of course," Herbert said.

When asked what Frances liked about Herbert, she responded laughing, “I don’t know.”
