Big Changes at American Idol
American Idol is being rocked by a huge cast shake-up. Ellen DeGeneres has announced she's quitting after just one season, and Jennifer Lopez is reportedly close to taking her place.
Lopez mentored Idol contestants back in 2007 and she's reportedly excited about the prospect of joining the judges' panel.
"Sources tell People that J.Lo is definitely in and she's super excited about being one of the judges," says Julie Dam of People magazine.
But those aren't the only bombshell changes happening at American Idol.
There are also reports that judge Kara DioGuardi has been fired from the show, and the music star rumored to be her replacement may surprise you!
It's none other than bad boy Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler!
As for DeGeneres's sudden departure, she tweeted, "Dim the lights. I've voted myself off American Idol."
DeGeneres says she left the show because she didn't like hurting contestants' feelings, the time commitment, and because she didn't feel she was the right fit for the show.
Host Ryan Seacrest weighed in on DeGeneres's departure on his radio show, saying, "I'm sad that she's not going to be on the show with us, but happy if this is what she wants to do. We will miss Ellen DeGeneres. We love Ellen DeGeneres!"
And former Idol judge Simon Cowell told The Hollywood Reporter, "I have huge respect for her because she's always been in control of her own destiny."
So where does all of this leave former judge Paula Abdul? Apparently...nowhere.
It was rumored that Abdul would be returning to the show, but now that doesn't seem likely.
That leaves Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest as the only original members of Idol when the new season begins.
