Brittany Murphy Autopsy Results

Brittany Murphy's autopsy report has been released. INSIDE EDITION has the details.

There are shocking results from actress Brittany Murphy's autopsy report. It turns out prescription drugs were partly to blame for the 32-year-old actress's sudden death.

The Los Angeles County Coroner lists the causes of death as:

- Pneumonia

- Iron deficiency anemia

- Multiple drug intoxication

"Was this death preventable?" INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd asks pathologist Cyril Wecht.

"I do believe the death of Brittany Murphy was preventable, if she had not been talking multiple drugs then she would not have died, because she would not have then been susceptible to the development of pneumonia," Wecht tells INSIDE EDITION.

All the drugs found in Murphy's system were prescription medications according to the Los Angeles County Coroner; they declined to say exactly which drugs were involved until the complete report in ready in about two weeks. But one published reports says the drugs included prescription medicine for cramps and an over-the-counter cough syrup.

The report raises questions about the persistent claims made by Murphy's mother and her husband Simon Monjack that Brittany was not abusing prescription drugs at the time of her death.

"Brittany was not taking any medication for her mood, for anorexia, for any kind of mental illness," Monjack told the Today show.

"Brittany Murphy's family has maintained in recent weeks that drugs were not to blame, does this autopsy result dispute that?" asks Paul Boyd.

"Yes, there can be no question that drugs played a major role in leading to this young woman's death," Wecht says.
