Beyoncé's Cover of "God Bless the USA" Released on iTunes

Airdate: 05/06/2011

"God Bless the USA" is the song that inspired America after 9/11.

Now Beyoncé has just released her own version of the patriotic song on iTunes. All proceeds benefit the families of New York cops and firefighters who were killed on 9/11.

The song rides a wave of patriotism sweeping the country following the daring raid by Navy SEALs who took down Osama bin Laden.

INSIDE EDITION caught up with Lee Greenwood, the singer most identified with "God Bless the USA,"  in Las Vegas. He wrote the song way back in 1984.

"To have a new and fresh approach is cool, but more than that is she's dedicating this money to the fire department of New York," said Greenwood.

Greenwood performed the song right after 9/11. His iconic song also swept the nation during the 1991 Gulf War and has been voted America's favorite patriotic song, ahead of even "God Bless America" and "The Star Spangled Banner."

Beyoncé originally recorded "God Bless the USA" for President Obama's 2008 election campaign, but her version has never been made available to the public before.

She says in a statement: "I cannot think about anything more appropiate to help these families. Almost ten years later, it is still so painful for all Americans, especially those who lost loved ones."

"It's an artists statement to say 'we are still proud and we are still here,' " said Greenwood.

Once again, a song for the ages to inspire us all.
