Marriage Ref Contestant Claims Show Caused His Divorce

A former guest of Jerry Seinfeld's The Marriage Ref is up in arms, claiming the TV show ended his 15-year marriage. INSIDE EDITION has the story.

Howard Kohlenberg says his appearance with his wife on Jerry Seinfeld's reality show The Marriage Ref ended up ruining his marriage.

Kohlenberg is claiming that his 15 minutes of fame on Seinfeld's reality show ended up destroying his 15-year marriage to his wife Christine.

"I think it had a major impact on our marriage in a negative way," Kohlenberg told INSIDE EDITION.

Kohlenberg says Seinfeld and the other celebrity judges, Tina Fey and Eva Longoria, mercilessly made fun of him.

"Isn't seeing him in a sleeveless shirt and shorts in public enough to keep women away?" commented the host.

He claims the show's producer also pumped his wife full of dreams that she would become famous, like the cast members of Jersey Shore.

"The producers and the crew really pumped us up, thinking, 'You're going to be a star. You could wake up the next morning and be a star.' You know, they would pump up my wife, [saying] 'Your lips look beautiful,' " Kohlenberg said.

He says after their The Marriage Ref segment aired last March, his wife, dreaming of stardom, dumped him to become an actress. She scored a small role in an independent film.

"I was pretty devastated, you know, I begged her to stay and try to work it out," said Kohlenberg.

When asked for his reaction to Kohlenberg's charge that The Marriage Ref destroyed his marriage, Seinfeld cracked wise and said to the New York Daily News: "Love it! Love it! Love it! Anything that alleviates the withering, blithering boredom of existence I'm in favor of."

INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asked Kohlenberg, "What would you say to Jerry Seinfeld?"

"I say, I hate it, hate it, hate it! Because it's not a joke. Everything's not just about comedy these days," said Kohlenberg.
