Madonna Reacts to MIA's Gesture at the Super Bowl

Madonna is speaking out for the first time about M.I.A's rude gesture during the Super Bowl halftime show. She says she had no idea it happened until after the show.

"I wasn't happy about it," said Madonna. "I actually didn't know about it until I left. I had no idea. I found out about it in the elevator actually on my way to go to the car to go to the airport."

The singer told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show today that she was "surprised"  that M.I.A. flipped the bird in front of 116 million Americans, the largest TV audience in history.

"There was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity. It seemed negative," said Madonna. "It's such a teenager, kind of irrelevant thing to do. What was the point? It was just out of place."

Meanwhile M.I.A's  wealthy fiance, Benjamin Bronfman, the father of her baby boy, is coming to M.I.A's defense on Twitter.

"Don't worry about all this," he writes. "Media needs to rethink it's code of ethics. To consistently try to tear down a working mother is beyond me."
