Michael Phelps Wins Record Number of Medals, While USA Women's Gymnasts Struck Gold

Team USA wins big at the Olympics as Michael Phelps becomes the most decorated athlete in Olympic history, and the women's gymnastics team struck gold with their jaw-dropping performances. INSIDE EDITION has the latest from London.

Michael Phelps won his record-shattering 19th Olympic medal, with help from his team-mates in the freestyle relay race, and happy times definitely call for a happy meal.

We mean that literally. Two of Phelps' teammates, Ricky Berens and Conor Dwyer put away a victory feast from McDonald's after their big triumph.

Berens told the Today show, "We ate dinner at McDonald's. We sacrifice so much for the Olympic games. We eat so healthy. We try to do everything right. It was just our time to relax. That McDonald's in the dining hall was just calling our name."

The meal that those two champion swimmers put away consisted of two quarter pounders with cheese, a Big Mac, two orders of fries, a six-piece order of chicken McNuggets and a McFlurry dessert. The second meal was another quarter pounder with cheese, 12 chicken McNuggets, another order of fries, and another McFlurry. Good thing they get plenty of exercise.

Total calorie count? 4,610.

Meanwhile, America's sweethearts, the gold medal gymnastics champions, were basking in the glory of victory.

The team's amazing performance dazzled Dominique Dawes, a member of America's legendary gymastic team from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Dawes said, "They surprised the crowd, but they didn't surprise me one bit. I knew they were going to be the golden girls at the end of the day!"

President Obama phoned the winners to express his admiration.

The president said, "I told these young ladies as I was congratulating them, 'How do you not bust your heads every time you're on that balance beam?' I couldn't walk across that balance beam!"

And Lady Gaga spoke for millions of Americans when she tweeted: "Woo-hoo! Gold for the ladies! Just want to squeeze them! So much talent and beauty!"
