Mo'Nique's Brother Apologizes for Abuse

"I'm sorry, Mo'Nique, I'm sorry, baby, I'm sorry."

The brother of Oscar®-winner Mo'Nique makes a shocking admission.

"I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister," Mo'Nique's brother said.

Mo'Nique has said she was molested as a child by her big brother, Gerald Imes, whom she calls a "monster." She says Gerald was the inspiration for the abusive character in Precious that earned her an Oscar®.

Gerald had always denied ever sexually abusing Mo'Nique when they were growing up. But a few weeks ago, he called Oprah Winfrey saying he wanted to come clean.

"When you now realize that she was using you as the fuel to create that character, how does that make you feel?" Oprah asked.

"For lack of words, like a piece of crap," Gerald responded.

In February, Mo'Nique revealed the horrific details of the abuse to Barbara Walters.

"Sexual abuse can be someone touching your breast, someone rubbing your behind, someone rubbing up against you with their private parts," Mo'Nique told Walters.

"Did he do all that?" Walters asked.

"Yes," replied Mo'Nique.

Appearing on Oprah today, Gerald made a complete confession.

"You were absolutely right with what you said. I did it. I'm not proud of it," he said.

Oprah, herself a victim of sexual abuse as a child, didn't conceal her contempt. At one point, she spoke on behalf of all sexual abuse victims, only to be interrupted by Mo'Nique's brother.

"You go along because that's what the family wants you to do…" Oprah began to say.

"Stop, stop, that's not what we wanted her to do," said Gerald.

Mo'Nique hasn't spoken to her brother in five years. She's also estranged from her parents, who sat in the front row. They said Mo'Nique shouldn't have gone public with her history of abuse.

"This is something I felt that should have been discussed first privately within the family," Mo'Nique's mother said.

Now Gerald says he hopes his Oscar®-winning sister will someday forgive him.

"I'm not a monster, I'm her older brother," he said.
