Jerry Lawler Returns To WWE After Heart Attack

Airdate: 11/20/2012

Wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler made a triumphant return to the ring.

“I can't tell you how much this means,” he said.

It was his first time back since suffering a heart attack on live TV in September.

Lawler had just finished a punishing exhibition match and had returned to his announcer chair, when he suddenly collapsed.

His girlfriend Lauryn, was at their Memphis home watching everything on television.

“It was really scary,” she said.

Fortunately, a WWE physician, Dr. Mike Sampson, was there at ringside.

“The heart is beating, but not in a rhythmic fashion, so bloods not going anywhere,” Dr. Sampson told INSIDE EDITION.

He showed us what viewers didn't see, a frantic effort to keep Lawler alive. The doctor shocked the wrestler's heart seven times, and performed CPR nonstop on the way to the hospital.

“Broken ribs, whatever I needed to do, he was getting to hospital alive,” Dr. Sampson said.

You could even hear the arena chanting his name as he was being taken out.

"No more fried chicken," Lawler said.

Today, Lauryn is thankful that her boyfriend is alive.

Lawler said pointing to Dr. Sampson, "Without this guy, I wouldn't be here."

He gave a bear hug to the doctor who saved his life.

Lawler has no memory of his heart attack but is overjoyed to be back in the ring.

“I made the comeback of my career that night,” he said.
