Joan Rivers Responds To Backlash Over Holocaust Joke

Defiant comedienne Joan Rivers won't apologize for those cracks she made about Adele, and about German supermodel Heidi Klum's daring Oscar® dress.

Rivers said on E! channel's Fashion Police, "The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens."

The remark triggered outrage, with the Anti-Defamation League denouncing her words as: "vulgar and offensive to Jews and Holocaust survivors, and indeed to all Americans."

INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent caught up with the controversial comedienne as she and her daughter Melissa were promoting the third season of their WE TV show, Joan and Melissa, Joan Knows Best.

Trent said, "A lot of people are offended."

Rivers said, "Well, you want to know something? I go through humor in many points, and that to me is reminding everyone about the Holocaust, and I think it's been talked about more this week than it's been talked about in the last six years."

Rivers has also been under fire for the way she poked fun at Oscar®-winning singer Adele's weight on the Late Show With David Letterman when she said, "I met Adele," and spread her arms out wide.

Rivers told INSIDE EDITION, "What is so terrible that she is chubby? Adele is chubby. This is no surprise."

Melissa Rivers said, "And we also said that she looks beautiful. We always say she's one of the best groomed, most pulled-together. She looks amazing all the time."

Joan chimed in, "I just wouldn't want to stand behind her in a buffet line."

INSIDE EDITION spoke with Rivers just as news broke that her fellow comedienne Bonnie Franklin of One Day at a Time fame had died of pancreatic cancer.

Rivers said, "[She was] lovely, lovely! And in our business, everything is through innuendo and gossip. And everyone had nice things to say about her."
