Reese Witherspoon Speaks On Embarrassing Arrest

Reese Witherspoon is trying to make amends after her arrest for disorderly conduct, saying, "We made a mistake." INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.

A humbled Reese Witherspoon is breaking her silence about her embarrassing arrest for disorderly conduct.

"We made a mistake and it is something that will absolutely never happen again. Just bad judgment," said Witherspoon. "We went out to dinner in Atlanta had one to many glasses of wine and thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. It's just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry."

She is also apologizing for her bad attitude when she told the police officer, "Do you know my name?"

The actress said, "I have no idea what I was saying that night. I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I told him I was pregnant. I'm not pregnant. I said crazy things. And you only hear me laughing because I have no idea what I was talking about. I'm so sorry I was so disrespectful to him."

She told Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos the hardest part was telling her kids about the incident, during which she tried to get out of the car twice to confront the officer. Her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, was charged with drunk driving.

"We have to say, when you make a mistake, you take responsibility and we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right. You have to be honest with them," said Witherspoon.

Stephanopoulos asked, "And the lessons learned?"

"There are so many lessons learned. When a police officer tells you to stay in the car, you stay in the car. I learned that for sure," she replied.

Witherspoon is trying to regain her good girl public image, but The Talk's Sharon Osbourne isn't buying it. Osbourne said about Witherspoon, " 'I'm 37, been married twice and got three children, but I'm sorry.' Give me a break!"

A story in the new People magazine out Friday reveals a side of her most people aren't aware of.

People magazine staff editor Charlotte Triggs told INSIDE EDITION,  "In reality, she's a fun girl and she likes to let loose now and then. So, this isn't entirely surprising that she would go out and have a few drinks with her husband."

People quotes a source as saying, "What happens in public and in private is very different. She does like to drink."

Another source says, "She likes guys with an edge."

Now, Witherspoon even joked about blaming her behavior on her most famous role, ditzy attorney Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde movies.

"You know, I think i've played a lawyer in a movie so many times, I think I am a lawyer. And clearly I'm not a lawyer, because I got arrested."
