Doctors Say Valerie Harper Close To Remission

Valerie Harper was given three months to live back in March after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Today, her doctors say she is miraculously close to remission. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

A miraculous turn around for Valerie Harper.

The actress best known as Rhoda Morgenstern on the Mary Tyler Moore show and Rhoda is close to remission.

In March, the 74-year-old actress revealed on People.com she had leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, an incurable form of brain cancer. Harper was given less than three months to live.

But her neuro-oncologist, Dr. Jeremy Rudnick said on the Today show,  "I'd say that we're getting pretty close to a remission. It defies the odds."

"That's great to hear," replied Harper.

NBC's Meredith Vieira has been following the Emmy winner's fight with the disease for an upcoming documentary. In the documentary, Harper said, "A lot of stuff that looks impossible, is not. And every day there's evidence of it."

Harper has been doing chemotherapy, acupuncture and a daily dose of Chinese tea.  

In June, with her husband Tony Cacciotti by her side, Harper got an an MRI scan that showed a significant improvement in her condition.

In the documentary, Cacciotti said, "Going from having three months to live, or less, we're into our sixth month, and now there's even hope beyond that."

Valerie is not completely out of the woods. The cancer could come back at any time. But right now, she is taking advantage of this gift of life. She's set to hit the ballroom for the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

"I just want to live every moment to the fullest," said Harper.
