SNL Auditions Black Female Comediennes

After criticism for a lack of diversity in the cast, SNL auditions African-American comediennes and INSIDE EDITION caught up with Tiffany Haddish who auditioned.

Saturday Night Live is auditioning African-American women following stinging criticism that the new cast lacked diversity.

You'll recall that the show poked fun at itself when Kerry Washington hosted last month. In one skit,  she played multiple characters including Michelle Obama and Oprah, with an announcement stating:  "The producers of Saturday Night Live would like to apologize to Kerry Washington for the number of black women she will be asked to play tonight. We made these requests both because Ms. Washington is an actress of considerable range and talent and also because SNL does not currently have a black woman in the cast."

Today's headline in the show business magazine Variety says: "Saturday Night Live to Add Female African-American Cast Member."

Executive Producer Lorne Michaels confirmed that 25 women in Los Angeles and New York have auditioned for the coveted part.

Tiffany Haddish, who auditioned in Los Angeles, told INSIDE EDITION, "I remember watching SNL and thinking, 'Man, I want to work on that show. I would love to just pretend, and play all day and be different people and characters. That would be a dream come true.'"

Haddish was a guest on The Arsenio Hall Show on Monday and used the occasion to poke fun at SNL in her act, saying. "Just know this Lorne Michaels. Don't no black woman want to work for a whole bunch of rich, white men. Justin Timberlake showing up to work. Leonardo DiCaprio or Alec Baldwin. Don't no black woman want to work for that. But I would love to work with that."

The new cast member is expected to be announced any day.
