Rosie's Take On Late Night

Rosie's Take On Late Night

Look out Jay Leno - Rosie O'Donnell is entering the late night wars, and she's clearly on team Conan!

"What I really hoped is that Jay Leno would have said 'you're right I had my turn and see ya,' but that didn't happen. I thought it would honestly thought Jay Leno's moral compass kick in and get unstuck."

"For Conan after all those years to be offered to host that show is a very huge honor, and it was time to pass the baton and Jay said he would then made some other decisions. I don't know, I think it's kind of a snarky thing to do."

We caught up with the out spoken Rosie at the premiere of her new HBO documentary  A Family Is A Family Is A Family,  with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter and their four children.

But Rosie's sunny disposition quickly faded as she bashed Leno and his on-air explanation that the late night shakeup wasn't his fault

Rosie said, "I don't believe that for one moment. I've been in show business too long. I think in the age of the internet he's not gonna get away with,  (Rosie imitating Jay Leno) 'I don't know what happened. They asked me if I would do the show at 10. They asked me a half hour show.'  Why don't you just say I'm not giving it to you. That would be the classy thing to do. Stay in New York Conan with your family and kids and your entire staff cause I'm never letting go of the wheel. That's what he should have said but that would have taken some (expletive deleted)."

Conan continued his rampage against NBC last night, saying, "Papers are reporting that I'm legally prohibited from saying anything negative about NBC. But, nobody said anything about speaking in Spanish. Conan then went on in Spanish with, "NBC is run by brainless sons of goats who eat money and crap trouble."

Now NBC executives are firing back, attacking Conan for trying to negotiate a severance package for his show's staffers. NBC released a statement saying, "It was Conan's decision to leave NBC that resulted in nearly 200 of his staffers being out of work. We have already agreed to pay millions of dollars to compensate every one of them. This latest posturing is nothing more than a PR ploy."

The late night fiasco has re-kindled the heated rivalry between David Letterman and Leno. David Letterman said on his show, "What were seeing now is vintage Jay. And it's enjoyable for me to see this."

Last night Leno mocked Letterman's sex scandal with, "Infidelilty + viagra + AARP gets you David Letterman."

Letterman said, "Jay Leno says The Tonight Show mess isn't his fault. But isn't it funny he always turns up at the scene of the crime?"
