It's the TV show that's too hot for teachers. The Discovery Network cancelled Bad Teachers after just one episode following angry protests from the national teacher's union.
The series profiled teachers who had sex with students. In the one episode that made it to air last week on Investigation Discovery, an Alabama teacher was depicted enticing two students.
American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten called the program, "offensive" and had a barrage of tweets about it.
Discovery released a statement saying it has "decided to immediately cancel this program."
TV Guide’s Steve Battaglio said, “When you take an individual group that has a powerful union like the American Federation of Teachers and you get them angry, that's going to keep advertisers away from the show. That's probably why it was pulled."
Bad Teachers is not to be confused with the CBS' Bad Teacher, the TV series based on the Cameron Diaz comedy.
Teachers having sex with their students is a problem that seems to be coming up with increasing frequency. Debra LaFave, Mary Kay Letourneau, and Pamela Rogers have all earned national infamy for their scandalous behavior.
Battaglio said, "Investigation Discovery probably wanted to do this show because those stories about teachers seducing students are very tantalizing. People are interested in them. But then it fell onto the 'more trouble than it's worth' list.’”
