The Last Star: Lauren Bacall Dead at 89

Hollywood is in mourning again after the passing of another icon, Lauren Bacall, who died at age 89. INSIDE EDITION has the details.

If there's such a thing as Hollywood royalty, Lauren Bacall was the queen and now, the queen is dead.

The star who was renowned for her husky voice and a dazzling expression simply known as "The Look" suffered a fatal stroke Tuesday at age 89.

For the last 50 years, Bacall lived at the Dakota apartment building on New York’s Central Park West. It's the building famous for being the spot where former Beatle John Lennon was shot and killed by a deranged fan back in 1980.

Bacall rose to fame at age 19 when she starred in the movie To Have and Have Not, opposite Humphrey Bogart. He was 25 years older, and they shocked the world by falling in love and getting married.

Film critic Leonard Maltin told INSIDE EDITION, "They were the hottest couple in the public's eye at that time. What made it so special was that they fell in love on camera."

Bacall wowed movie fans in How to Marry a Millionaire, with Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable.

She won two TONY Awards, and in 2009 she received an honorary Oscar, only to be frisked at the airport on her way home when her jewelry set off the metal alarms.

Maltin said, "She was known for being tough, formidable."

Bacall's reputation as a tough-as-nails lady persisted into her later years as INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander found out when interviewed her a few years back.

Alexander asked, "What are your plans for the holidays?"

Bacall replied, "Stayin' alive, honey!"

She is survived by her three adult children.
