Lindsay Lohan: The Early Years

She was once an adorable young girl, starring in her first film in 1998. Today she's a troubled young woman who's just been sentenced to 90 days in jail. So what happened in between? INSIDE EDITION reports.

"When I was younger I'd pray every night so that I could be in a movie," said an adorable Lindsay Lohan at age 12, at the premiere of her first film, The Parent Trap.

Lohan's prayers were answered, but she was wrong when she told INSIDE EDITION, "I'm going to go back to school and like, go and be a normal kid I guess."

"Normal" is hardly the word anyone would choose for the way Lohan's life has gone.

Lohan grew up on Long Island, and was going to auditions at an age when most kids are still coloring and playing with dolls. It didn't take her long to find success as an actress.

She was always a natural in front of the camera, and she booked a Jell-O commercial at age 5 with Bill Cosby.

But during her late teen years, Lohan seemed to spiral out of control.

The 19-year-old smashed her Mercedes-Benz convertible into a photographer's red van in 2005.

2007 was a troubling year for the actress, who was charged with two DUIs.

And paparazzi photos showed Lohan passed out in a friend's SUV after a night of partying.

In 2009, Lohan recorded a mock E-Harmony ad for funnyordie.com poking fun at her own problems:

"I'm looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with - or at least, the rest of my probation," she joked.

But nobody's laughing now that Lohan's been sentenced to 90 days in jail followed by 90 days of rehab.

"It's up to Lindsay herself whether this is going to be her total downfall; it's entirely in her hands, I'm not writing her off," says Bonnie Fuller of hollywoodlife.com.
