On Monday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner said it is investigating the cause, manner and circumstances of her death. The medical examiner will carry out an autopsy and lab testing may take weeks, they said.

The Roswell Police Department is also continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the January incident.

Last month, Bobbi Kristina's family moved her to an Atlanta-area hospice, where they maintained a bedside vigil.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight at the time, her aunt, Pat Houston, said: "Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown's condition has continued to deteriorate... She is in God's hands now."

Bobbi Kristina's passing comes more than three years after her mother died in eerily similar circumstances. Houston, 48, was pronounced dead after being found face down in a bathtub in her Los Angeles hotel room on February 11, 2012.

Bobbi Kristina, who had expressed a desire to become a singer like her mother, spoke to Oprah Winfrey about her grief in the weeks after the tragedy.

"It comes in waves," she said. "One minute I could be laughing and happy, but then it will come over me. It's my mom. I start crying, but then I hear her again, saying, 'Come on, keep moving.'"

Shortly after her mother's passing, Bobbi Kristina revealed she was in a relationship with Nick Gordon, whom her mother had taken in as a child. They became engaged later that year and in 2014, they said they had married, although a family member denied that was the case.

After she was moved into hospice care in June, disturbing claims emerged about the relationship.

In a lawsuit, a court-appointed conservator claimed Gordon committed "domestic violence" on Bobbi Kristina, including "punching her in the face, knocking out a front tooth, and dragging her upstairs by her hair."

The complaint added that on January 31, Bobbi Kristina got into a "loud argument" with Gordon. Later that day, she was found unresponsive in her bathtub, "with her mouth swollen and another tooth knocked out."

The suit also accused Gordon of “accessing" Bobbi Kristina’s bank account and stealing $11,000 after she slipped into a coma.

On Monday, sources reported that he is on suicide watch following news of her death.

"Nick is on suicide watch," a source told HollywoodLife.com. "He keeps saying that if only [Bobbi Kristina] had heard his voice, things would have been different. She may have lived."
