Black Sabbath: Outrage as Goat-Headed Satanic Sculpture is Unveiled in Detroit

A Satanic organization unveiled a bronze goat-headed Baphomet statue in Detroit over the weekend.

Due to planned demonstrations against the statue, The Satanic Temple, who issued tickets to the unveiling, kept the location a secret until the last moment when ticket holders were notified about where to go.

The nine-foot, one-ton statue was placed at an industrial building near the Detroit River as supporters chanted: "Hail Satan."

The presentation outraged local Christian groups and around 50 people gathered to pray for the city.

"The last thing we need in Detroit is having a welcome home party for evil," Reverend Dave Bullock, a pastor at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Highland Park, Michigan, told Reuters.

The sculpture of a Baphomet, which features a goat’s head on a human body with children gazing at it, was originally supposed to be placed near a 10 Commandments monument in Oklahoma in 2012.

But the Oklahoma Supreme Court recently ruled the 10 Commandments monument violates a section of the state constitution that bans the use of state property for the benefit of a religion.

The statue will now be transported to Arkansas, where earlier this year a 10 Commandments monument was authorized to be placed on the State Capitol’s grounds.

The Baphomet sculpture was The Satanic Temple's response to bible-themed statues and the right to install religious displays at government buildings.
