Serena Beats Sister Venus at U.S. Open: 'She's the Toughest Player I've Ever Played in My Life'

Sisters Serena and Venus Williams gave each other a heartfelt hug after going head-to-head at the U.S. Open last night.

Serena won the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 and will now go through to the semifinals. She delivered the final blow to her sister after appearing to hold back tears.

After the match, Serena and Venus appeared together at a news conference.

Serena said: "It's a really great moment; she's the toughest player I’ve ever played in my life and the best person I know."

Venus echoed the sentiment: “I think people love to see history being made. ... But at the same time, you're focused on winning your match even though the circumstances are really much different than you."

“It’s the greatest story in tennis,” Serena said at the news conference. “Because of where we come from and how we started. It doesn’t get better for us [now]. And the people that we’ve inspired.”

There were plenty of celebrities on hand at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York including Donald Trump who got booed as he arrived with wife Melania. Oprah and Kim Kardashian also attended.
