Elle's Gabourey Sidibe Cover Controversy

Actress Gabourey Sidibe appears on one of four covers celebrating Elle magazine's 25th anniversary, but her photo is the only one causing controversy. INSIDE EDITION reports.

Gabourey Sidibe is on the cover of the new issue of Elle magazine, but today the internet is buzzing...was the actress's skin lightened in Photoshop?

The internet is buzzing with attacks on the magazine, including comments like:

"Why was there a need for the magazine to 'whiten' her?" and "A sad waste of a great face"

Sidibe, the breakout star from last year's Precious, is one of four stars to appear on different covers for the magazine's 25th anniversary issue. The others featured are Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. But it's Sidibe's photo that is drawing controversy.

"Professionally, when I look at it, I think there's the combination of a wash of light and some retouching that did lighten the photo. Whoever had the idea that she should look lighter is probably hiding in a corner right now, because it was unnecessary and it has created a backlash," says Harriette Cole, former editor of Ebony magazine.

A spokeswoman for Elle says, "We have four separate covers this month, and Gabby's cover was not retouched any more or less than the others."
