The remains of a baby that were found in an Illinois lagoon in September have been identified as a two-year-old boy who wasn’t reported missing until after the body parts were discovered, authorities said.

Little Kyrian Knox was reported missing from Rockford two weeks after a dismembered toddler’s body was discovered on September 5 in Garfield Park near Chicago’s New West Side, police said.

A human foot was reportedly found over the Labor Day weekend in Garfield Park lagoon, where searchers discovered a head, two hands and another foot.

The body parts were estimated to have been in the lagoon between a week and two weeks when they were found, officials told reporters at the time of the discovery.

The child’s mother, Lanisha Knox, told police she last saw her son when she left him with family friends for a couple of weeks in Rockford on August 18 while she started a new job, according to reports. Investigators told reporters at the time that there was no evidence to support Kyrian Knox was abducted.

Chicago Police said the investigation is ongoing and no suspect has been arrested.
