Rock legend Donald Fagen, the frontman for Steely Dan, was arrested in New York City for allegedly assaulting his wife, singer-songwriter Libby Titus, according to several reports.

The 67-year-old musician was arrested Monday night by New York Police Department officers who were summoned to the Upper East Side apartment he shares with Titus, according to People magazine, which cited court documents.

He was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor assault and harassment and was released without bail and ordered to stay away from his wife, the Associated Press reported.

During an argument with Titus, he allegedly grabbed her by the arms and pushed her into a window ledge, knocking her to the ground, the wire service reported. Titus, 69, suffered bruising and swelling, the AP said, citing two unidentified law enforcement sources.

Fagen, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, first met Titus in the 1960s when both attended Bard College. They were married in 1993.

Fagen recently performed with step-daughter Amy Helm during a Black Friday concert at the Levon Helm studios in Woodstock. Helm is the daughter of Libby and The Band's iconic drummer Levon Helm.

Titus, the co-author of ballads including "Love Has No Pride," has collaborated with Burt Bacarach and issued a 1970s album produced by Phil Ramone, Robbie Robertson, Carly Simon and Paul Simon. She also had a longterm relationship with Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) and was the inspiration for his 1983 piano song "Pretty Libby."

Fagen's publicist had no comment, the AP reported.
