'Dirty Jobs' Star Mike Rowe Laughs Off Lookalike Bank Robber: 'He Totally Set Me Up!'

'Dirty Jobs' host Mike Rowe takes to Facebook in hilarious exchanges over his amazing resemblance to a wanted bank robber.

Bank robbery is a really dirty business, but Mike Rowe wants you to know that he most certainly did not pull that heist in Oregon.

The television host bears more than a slight resemblance to a stick-up artist who knocked over the Chase bank in Medford on Monday afternoon.

After police posted surveillance video of baseball-cap-wearing bandit, the Internet lit up with posters noting the wanted guy looked an awful lot like the well-known former host of the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" series.

Speaking to INSIDE EDITION, Rowe joked that the thief had tried to look like him by wearing a cap.

"The guy did it on purpose!" he said. "He totally set me up!"

He first found out about his devious doppelgänger when he started getting notifications on Facebook. Then his mom called.

"Michael, tell us it’s not true! Tell us you didn’t do it!" she said, he recounted.

In response to the alerts, he posted a long Facebook message (with tongue firmly in cheek), proclaiming his innocence.

"To The People of Medford Oregon," he wrote. "True, I am often attired in a sweatshirt and ball cap, and yes, I do share a certain resemblance with the culprit. I've also been spotted in Medford on more than once occasion, (a lovely town by any standard.) However, I am not “5'6"- 5'8" tall with a small to medium build.” The last time I was 5’6” - 5’8” I was in the 6th grade. And the "small to medium" ship sailed some time ago."

He added to IE: "If you're not laughing, you're not in on the joke."

In the same spirit, the Medford Police Department posted to its Facebook page: "Good morning folks. First off, we appreciate all the tips on the bank robbery from yesterday. In fact, thanks to you guys, we issued an arrest warrant for Mike Rowe from the TV show, "Dirty Jobs." Just kidding Mike Rowe! Keep your eye out for the real robber and keep the tips coming."

Lt. Mike Budreau told INSIDE EDITION that he put up the post and appreciated Rowe's response, saying the department "had some fun with it."

But seriously, he says, he thinks all the publicity can't hurt in their search for the bad guy.

"This is going to help it get a lot more attention," Budreau told IE. "Someone is going to recognize this guy."

Police are not disclosing how much money was stolen, but Budreau noted it was a "substantial amount."

Rowe also posted that he had an alibi for the time of the robbery, saying he was in Kansas, and could provide witnesses if need be.

"Always have an alibi," he joked to IE.

Bank robbery would be one of the cleaner, and possibly less dangerous, jobs that Rowe has undertaken for his old series.

In the show, he did some of the grossest jobs of modern times. Among them: bed bug exterminator, bat cave scavenger, worm dung farmer, roadkill cleaner, horse inseminator (yes, he inseminated a horse), snake wrangler, gator wrangler, and maggot farmer.
