ESPN reporter Elizabeth Moreau was the victim of a prankster who called her hotel room and told her the hotel was on fire. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Another ESPN reporter has been victimized in her hotel room. A cruel prankster called 27-year-old Elizabeth Moreau at midnight and convinced her the hotel was on fire.
She smashed a window before realizing the call was a hoax.
It happened at the Hilton Garden Inn in Gainesville, Florida. Moreau was there to cover a Florida Gators volleyball game.
A police report obtained by INSIDE EDITION says the caller told her to lay towels down at the bottom of her door and then remove a toilet seat to break out a window.
After she smashed the window, the caller told her: "That's what you get for being a bad ex-wife."
ESPN tightened security for their broadcast teams after Erin Andrews was secretly videotaped naked in her hotel room.
The latest vicious prank echoes similar cruel tricks played on hotel guests across America.
Guests are usually called late at night, told the hotel is on fire and directed to smash the windows.
Prankster: "Bust out the window. Get fresh air in that room right now!"
Victim: "Can I leave the room?"
Prankster: "You can't. We're locking the room. We're locking the hotel!"
Victim: "Hurry! All of it! More of it. More! Do the other side! Hurry up!"
Prankster: "Hurry Ma'am! Hurry! Urgent!"
Victim: "Do it now! I want to get out of this room!"
As part of a similar prank, Terri Thompson and her family were tricked into triggering the sprinkler system in an Orlando Best Western.
Water flooded their room ruining their luggage and clothes.
"All the damage is not funny," Thompson said.
