Oops! Rubio's 'America' Commercial Features Skyline in Canada

An ad the presidential hopeful released over the weekend starts with the narration "It's morning again in America"...only it's not America on the screen.

Marco Rubio's new television ad opens with a glimmering skyline with a narrator saying, "It's morning again in America" - only the skyline is in a different country.

The ad, titled "Morning Again," actually shows Vancouver, British Columbia's harbor with the city's iconic Lookout Tower looming unmistakably in the background.

There's even a tugboat in the harbor that's flying a Canadian flag on its stern.

Vancouver, B.C., videographer Guy Chavasse told CBC News he shot the scene in August and then posted it for sale on a stock video site.

"It's pretty funny, isn't it?" he said. "It's a good-looking video, no doubt, but it's pretty recognizable as Vancouver."

The ad is meant to evoke Ronald Reagan's 1984 "Morning in America" ad by recreating it with new footage.

Th original, however, did not feature a foreign city.

BuzzFeed news first caught the mistake.

"Ha! Nice catch by BuzzFeed -- we hadn’t noticed that. We are not going to make Canada an issue in this election,” a spokesman told the site.

This isn't the first time something distinctly not American has made its way into campaign ads this cycle.

Last month, the Trump campaign mistakenly used footage of Soviet soldiers in an ad about the candidate's dedication to America's troops and veterans.
