Man Sues Hotel, Claims He Got in Bed With Girl, 9, After Staff Gave Him the Wrong Key

Man Sues Hotel, Claims He Got in Bed With Girl, 9, After Staff Gave Him the Wrong Key Daniel Hughes, acquitted of child molestation, has now sued a hotel, claiming a wrong room key caused him to get in bed with 9-year-old.

A man acquitted of child molestation has sued a Missouri Ritz-Carlton hotel, alleging a clerk gave him the wrong room key, which caused him to crawl in bed with a 9-year-old girl.

Daniel Hughes was charged with three counts of child molestation and one count of statutory sodomy, but was found not guilty on all counts in 2014.

The child and prosecutors said Hughes, then 42, got into bed with her wearing only his underwear and touched her sexually, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Scott Rosenblum, Hughes' lawyer, argued his client was drunk and only embraced the girl, thinking she was a woman he'd been out with earlier in the night.

Rosenblum also said his inebriated client mistakenly asked for a key to a room that was not his.

In his suit filed last week against the Ritz-Carlton, Hughes claims staff were negligent in not checking his identification before giving him the key.

He is seeking unspecified damages.
