Newlywed Who Fled Police in 'Just Married' Car Said He Was 'Trying to Process Everything': Cops

A reckless driver is in-custody after leading police on a chase from behind the wheel of a car with "just married" scrawled on the side.

It was too late for cold feet for this Tennessee man who police say took them on an interstate chase from behind the wheel of a vehicle with "just married" written on the side.

The chase began Thursday morning when an officer noticed the vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, allegedly swerving. When the officer got closer, the driver turned as if to strike the patrol car, police said.

When the Mt. Juliet Police Department Officer attempted to stop the driver, he allegedly accelerated, forcing the officer to give chase as police say the driver continued to swerve and crash into the rails and concrete barriers.

After 20 miles, a man identified by police as Michael Smith, 27, of Nashville pulled off an exit and into a restaurant parking lot and stopped voluntarily.

"He made statements to the officers that he had 'just got married and was trying to process everything' and 'just had a life crisis and a lot on his mind,'" Mt. Juliet Police Department Lt. Tyler Chandler told The Huffington Post.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail, charged with Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, and Reckless Driving.

He's due in court April 13, according to online police records.
