Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen was shot dead in Beverly Hills this week after a Hollywood premiere. Police are looking for clues in this murder scene that's all too real. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
The murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen was a "targeted hit."
That's the theory of Beverly Hills detectives investigating the execution style killing that has many in Hollywood on edge.
Beverly Hills Mayor Jimmy Delshad said, "We've never had a case like this for the last 100 years."
Chasen was shot five times in the chest at close range. The gunshots blasting through the passenger window of her Mercedes E-350.
The murder happened just minutes after Chasen attended the premiere of Cher's new movie, Burlesque.
Chasen was a power player in Hollywood, busy promoting Michael Douglas' Oscar® nomination for the Wall Street sequel, and also working with Oscar® winners Morgan Freeman and Jeff Bridges.
But the big question is, who killed her and why?
Former Los Angeles Police Department Chief William Bratton said on CBS' Early Show, "This is all the makings of a classic Hollywood who done it, which on Columbo, this is a scernario you'd see on that old TV show."
Chasen attended the Burlesque after party at Hollywood's W Hotel, leaving at 12:15 a.m. She turned right on Sunset Boulevard driving west toward her apartment. About 12:30 a.m., she stopped at a traffic light not far from her home.
Cops say they found shattered glass from her car's window scattered on the street at the intersection where the murder took place. Cops believe the mortally wounded Chasen tried speeding away from her assailant, but only drove a couple of blocks before crashing her car.
Flowers and a newspaper article are laid at the crime scene which is nearby the estate of the late comedian Buddy Hackett. Cops obtained video from Hackett's surviellance cameras hoping to find any clues that would lead them to the killer.
Hollywood publicist Michael Levine wants to know who murdered his friend, saying, "We know little, which is what makes this such an unbelieveable jaw-dropping mystery."
