The World's Oldest Person, 116-Year-Old Emma Morano, Loves Raw Eggs And Being Single

Emma Morano, age 116, attributes her longevity to raw eggs and being single.

The newest, oldest living person in the world is 116-year-old Emma Morano of Vercelli, Italy, who eats raw meat and raw eggs daily, and says being single is a big help in staying young.

She is also believed to be the last person on Earth born in the 19th century, according to Guinness World Records.

Morano was born on November 29, 1899. She married in 1926 and has lived in the same small apartment on the shores of Lake Maggiore ever since. She gave birth to a son, who died at six months.

She was not happy in her marriage, and in 1938 she left her husband. She never married again.

She has had many suitors after her marriage ended, but never felt the need to get hitched again.

“I don’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she told The New York Times last year.

Each day she eats three eggs – two raw and one cooked - pasta, and a serving of raw meat.  For breakfast, she enjoys milk and biscuits.

She was happy to be named the world’s oldest person though her hearing is almost gone and she is unable to talk on the phone, a caretaker told Britain’s The Guardian.

“She was told this morning, and she said, ‘My word, I’m as old as the hills,’ but she was very pleased,’’’ 72-year-old Rosi Santoni told the paper.

She has worked in a factory and as a cook, and was one of eight children.

She succeeds Susannah Jones of New York, who died Thursday at age 116 years, six months and nine days.
