San Diego Gay Men's Chorus Demands Investigation After Padres' Star-Spangled Mishap

The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus was stunned when a recording played over their rendition of the national anthem.

The San Diego Padres have apologized to the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus after a pre-game blunder at Petco Park over the weekend.

The chorus was singing the national anthem Saturday on the field during “Pride Night” when a pre-recorded voice of a woman was heard over the loudspeakers instead of their own voices.

The 100-man San Diego Gay Men’s chorus gave up and let the recorded voice play.

The Padres have since released a statement calling the mistake a "technical error" with no "malicious intent."

"We have terminated our relationship with the third-party contractor who was responsible for the error," they added.

Chorus members Bob Lehman and Dan England spoke to Inside Edition.

"The woman's voice came on and a dread came over me, I didn't know what do to," Lehman told IE. "Do I sing? Do I not sing?"

"We did get some applause and some encouragement from people then there were a couple jeers from the audience," England said. "In my heart, I believe it was a mix-up."

Billy Bean,a former Padres outfielder who's now Major League Baseball's vice president of social responsibility and inclusion, took to Twitter to issue a statement.
