Family Defends Mom Charged With Stabbing Her 3 Young Sons to Death

"Given the circumstances, we love Octavia unconditionally," the family said in a press conference Monday.

The family of an Arizona mom who allegedly stabbed her three sons to death has broken their silence about the tragedy.

Family members of Octavia Rogers said in a Monday press conference that they are still in mourning after the 29-year-old allegedly stabbed and dismembered her three sons before turning the knife on herself earlier this month -- but they defended her as a loving mother.

Jaikare Rahaman, 8, and Jeremiah Adams, 5, were discovered inside a bedroom closet of their grandmother's home in north Phoenix, while 2-month-old Avery Robinson's body was inside a suitcase.

"My daughter loved her kids," Rogers' mother Tanella McCoy said. "She loved the boys unconditionally. There was nothing she would not do, for her boys or for me. And I know that."

During the press conference, the family said they will continue to stand behind Rogers with the support of the community, but do not know why she allegedly killed her sons.

"I don't think it's for us to understand why," Rogers' sister Sherry Spoony said. "We'd like to, but if we never understand why, it's tragic and we just have to accept what's been given to us."

When Rogers' brother came home that Thursday, he said Rogers was talking to him in the garage of her mother's house  where she was receiving support raising her sons  about religion and how she found the answer, authorities said.

She then rushed into the home, locking her brother out.

When he forced his way in an hour later, he said he discovered her in the bathroom stabbing herself, while telling him she was pregnant.

Her brother called 911, and Rogers was rushed to a local hospital with self-inflicted wounds to her abdomen and neck.

She reportedly told officers that her children were with another family member, but their partially dismembered bodies were soon discovered during a check of the house.

"An absolutely horrific scene for the officers and [the woman’s] brother to arrive to,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump told reporters the following morning.

Despite being in critical condition following the tragedy, Rogers was released from the hospital last week and could be seen in a video by KPHO being taken to jail, where she was booked on murder charges.

Rogers is now being held in lieu of a $1 million bond, according to The Associated Press. She is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday.
