The winning numbers for the $355 million Mega Millions jackpot and Hurley's winning lottery numbers from the TV show Lost have something in common. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
It's the Mega Millions jackpot everyone is talking about, and not just because of the staggering prize…worth a staggering $355 million.
In an eerie twist, it turns out the winning numbers are remarkably close to the lottery numbers that were a repeated motif throughout six seasons of the now-classic TV show Lost.
What are the odds of that happening?
The winning Mega Millions numbers are 4-8-15-25-47-42. The Lost lottery numbers are 4-8-15-16-23-42. Four out of six numbers are the same.
"It's about one in a million, the fact that this formula from Lost matches the winning formula of the lottery," says physicist Dr. Michio Kaku.
Lost's Hurley, played by actor Jorge Garcia, wins the biggest lottery in history.
But the winning numbers proved to be curse, and became a continuing part of Lost's mythology.
The writer of that Lost episode, David Fury, was amused by how close the Lost numbers are to the real Mega Millions jackpot number.
"It was very funny to hear that," he said.
The Lost lottery numbers were a recurring theme meant to be a secret equation predicting when the world would come to an end.
At one point the numbers were the code that had to be perpetually entered into a computer to prevent a devastating explosion.
