Pair Convicted of Attempting to Rape Girl, 16, in Assault Posted to Snapchat

A Massachusetts couple has been convicted for trying to rape a 16-year-old girl while a third person allegedly captured the assault on social media.

A Massachusetts pair has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old in an attack that was posted to social media.

Rashad Deihim, 21, and Kailyn Bonia, 20, were found guilty in Essex Superior Court Tuesday afternoon following the September 3, 2014 assault of the intoxicated teen in the woods behind an elementary school while the incident was recorded on Snapchat.

Prosecutors proved over the course of the trial that the defendants attempted to rape the "highly intoxicated" girl in the town of Saugus while a third person, Timothy Cyckowski, 19,  posted videos of the attack on the social media app.

During the trial, a friend of the victim, Sydness Enos, testified she received the Snapchat videos sent by Cyckowski and alerted her mother.

Sydnee was able to take two screenshots of the videos, which were introduced as evidence. Sydnee and her mother both testified that Bonia appeared to be holding the victim down by her neck while she kissed her and was forcing her head toward Deihim in order to perform a sexual act.

Police said they responded to the scene and found the victim half-dressed and incoherent.

“I want to thank the jury for their careful attention to the evidence in this case,” District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a statement. "I must also commend the victim for her courage in facing her assailants in court.  I hope that, with this verdict, she is assured that what happened to her was not her fault."

Cyckowski pleaded guilty to filming the alleged assault  in 2016 in juvenile court.  He was found delinquent and committed to the Department of Youth Services until he turns 20 and then must serve four years of probation.

Bonia was found guilty of assault to rape, indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, and kidnapping.  She was found not guilty of posing a child in nude with lascivious intent.

Deihim was found guilty of assault to rape; indecent assault and battery on a person over 14; kidnapping; and posing a child in nude with lascivious intent.

None of the charges carry mandatory minimums. Sentencing is scheduled for September 6, 2016 in Salem Superior Court.
