The cast is wearing black Starfleet insignia pins to remember Anton Yelchin, who was killed in a freak car accident last month.
Comic-Con is underway in San Diego and the premiere of Star Trek: Beyond kicked off the annual event.
The stars of the third installment of the successful reboot series walked the red carpet with heavy hearts as they remembered late co-star Anton Yelchin, who passed away last month.
The cast and filmmakers wore black Starfleet insignia pins to honor the 27-year-old, who died in a freak car accident at his Los Angeles home.
Producer J.J. Abrams, who also directed the first two Star Trek films, told the crowd: "As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you, and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight. There is something missing tonight, there is someone missing tonight."
He added: "Anton Yelchin should be here. Anton’s parents are here, Irina and Victor. We love their son and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend, Anton."
Fans of the space series from around the world attended the event dressed as their favorite characters to commemorate the big anniversary.
Star Trek: Beyond director Justin Lin told Inside Edition: "I think it’s the characters, I mean it’s a group of people from various backgrounds gong on a journey. They are a family. It's been 50 years there have been so many great films and episodes.”
Actor Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, said: “For it to last for half a century, it's a really important milestone.”

Comic-Con will last until Sunday and more than 130,000 people are expected to attend the convention.
Other panels and surprises in store for fans will be the trailers for the upcoming season of The Walking Dead, Netflix’s Luke Cage and Voltron, and celebrating the 30th anniversary of Alien.
Conan O’Brien will be broadcasting all weekend from Comic-Con on his late night show.
On Wednesday night, he kicked off the special broadcast where he utilized the latest virtual reality and 360-degree technology.
