'Heartbreaking': Police Officer to Be Taken Off Life Support on His Wedding Day

Hans Campbell was hit by a boat while scuba diving.

A Dallas police officer was scheduled to be taken off life support Thursday — the day he was supposed to marry his fiancée, according to friends.

Hans Campbell, 28, had traveled to the Philippines to celebrate his birthday and marry Chriselyn Bedolido. But tragedy struck Tuesday when he was hit by a boat while scuba diving and declared clinically dead.

He was kept on life support to harvest his organs.

Friend Victor Wang called losing his buddy "heartbreaking," and set up a GoFundMe page to help with transportation and funeral costs. Campbell also served in the Texas Army National Guard.

“I spoke with Chriselyn not too long ago, and as of [Wednesday] they are finishing up things over in the Philippines and trying to get Hans back to the U.S. ASAP,” Wang wrote.

“The reason why I’m doing this is just to help Chriselyn as everyone can imagine how much is on her plate already.”

The Dallas Police Department had no immediate comment about Campbell's death.

The couple met in 2011 at a Vietnamese restaurant in California. They struck up a conversation and Campbell asked Bedolido for her phone number, according to their wedding website. She refused, giving her email address instead.

“And the rest, as they say, is history,” the site said.
