Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was moved in an air ambulance to a rehabilitation facility in Houston today. INSIDE EDITION reports on the process of the move.
There were cheers for Congresswoman Gabby Giffords as she leaves the hospital in Tucson for the first time.
Well-wishers lined the streets, waving and carrying signs as the ambulance carrying Giffords passed by. It was guarded by a procession of police on motorcycles.
At the airport, Giffords was put onboard an air ambulance for the 2 hour 15 minute flight to Memorial Herman Medical Center in Houston.
Giffords was flying in an air ambulance with a team of specially trained doctors and nurses, and is equipped to closely monitor brain trauma victims like Giffords.
Dr. Damon Kralovic of the Cleveland Clinic told INSIDE EDITION, "40,000 feet in the air, we can provide the same kind of care that you can provide in an intensive care unit."
Giffords husband, Mark Kelly, took her outside in her hospital bed to feel the sun on her face for the first time since the shooting.
