Kody Lott has been arrested in the shooting of Lauren Landavazo and Makayla Smith in a Wichita Falls alley.
Two 13-year-old girls were shot — one of them fatally — on Friday and police in Wichita Falls say they have made an arrest in the case.
Wichita Falls cops later picked up Kody Lott, 20, who matched the description of the driver police believe had fired on Lauren Landavazo and Makayla Smith as they walked home from school.
Landavazo died in the shooting and police said in a statement Sunday that Lott confessed to the crimes.
Lott was initially arrested on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, police said.
As of Sunday, Lott's alleged motive was unknown. He was booked into Wichita County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited weapon
Lott is being held on a total bond amount of $4,001,000.
The shootings happened at about 5 p.m. Friday and immediately rocked what is largely a quiet area of northeast Texas.
Michael Kuhrt, superintendent of the school district where the girls attended eighth grade, issued a statement immediately after the tragedy.

"I am saddened to report that one of those girls passed away and the other is in guarded condition. Please know that the district is coordinating efforts to provide grief counselors for students. As soon as we have more information about those resources, we will pass that along to you. As a district, we are saddened by this senseless act of violence and our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved," Kuhrt wrote.
A GoFundMe campaign has also appeared to benefit the Landavazo family. Family friend Matthew Josey wrote a touching tribute to Lauren on the campaign page.
"She was such an angel and beautiful child that has not got the chance to experience life. I'm asking for any help to lift what burden is possibly during this darkest time. She would light up the room with her smile that never left her face. She was loved by everyone. She was energetic, smart, caring, fun loving, and overall an angel. The world will not be the same without her," he wrote.
As of Sunday afternoon, the campaign had already exceeded its $10,000 goal.
