Busted! Father Accused of Leaving Own Daughter Alone in Freezing Temperatures Is Arrested
The father accused of abandoning his little daughter on a college campus in near-freezing temperatures has been arrested.
On Friday, Ogden Police located Adrian Sanchez and was taken into custody after authorities obtained a child abandonment arrest warrant.
The news of his arrest comes as the young girl’s mother, Gena, spoke to Inside Edition.
“She told me she didn’t think anybody was ever going to find her and that she was never going to see me again,” Gena said.
The heartbreaking surveillance footage captured the two hours that 5-year-old Acelynn Sanchez was left alone on the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College campus on October 8.
She was completely on her own, wearing only light pajamas and no shoes. She had some fleece blankets and made a makeshift bed, and even fell asleep for a time.
She was left there just after 5 a.m., when temperatures had dropped to only 38 degrees.
She says her dad told her he was going to look for a dog and not to follow him. He gave her his sweatshirt and then walked away to get on a bus.
Gena and the girl's 41-year-old father don't live together. He had visitation rights the night he allegedly abandoned her, reportedly because he wanted to go partying.
"For him to go and leave her, he could have called me,” Gena said.
Acelynn's mom says her daughter still has nightmares about being abandoned.
Officer Josh Miller spotted Acelynn right after she'd fallen and scraped her knee in the college parking lot.
"She was shivering, she was crying,” Officer Miller told Inside Edition. “I'm just thankful I was in the right place at the right time."
The officer paid a visit to Acelynn at her home with Gena, telling the girl: "I am happy that you're home with your mom again."
