Kidnapper Charged With Killing Kansas Mom Claims Victim Backed Out of Deal to Turn Over Baby: Cops

Yesenia Sesmas reportedly said in a Spanish-language jailhouse interview that she had a deal with slain mom Laura Abarca-Nogueda.

A Kansas woman who allegedly killed an acquaintance before kidnapping the woman's baby has reportedly spoken out from her jail cell.

Days after cops say Yesenia Sesmas, 34, shot Laura Nogueda-Abarca dead before allegedly kidnapping her 6-day-old baby girl, police said Sesmas had faked a pregnancy for months prior to the crime.

Now, in a jailhouse interview with Spanish-language Univision affiliate KUVN, Sesmas has reportedly said the baby was supposed to be handed over to her.

According to the AP, Abarca-Nogueda had originally agreed to turn over her newborn daughter to her but reneged on the deal.

In the interview from her Dallas County jail, Sesmas reportedly admitted that she killed Abarca-Nogueda but said she did not mean to.

She said she threatened Abarca-Nogueda with a gun that accidentally discharged.

Baby Sofia was found alive and safe in Dallas, Texas, Saturday and has since been reunited with her family in Kansas.

Sesmas reportedly knew 27-year-old Nogueda-Abarca for a few years, according to police.

"Detectives learned that Sesmas had faked a pregnancy over the last several months," said Detective Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police Department.

Police didn’t elaborate on details of their relationship.

Nogueda-Abarca’s boyfriend, the baby’s father, found the mom murdered and baby Sofia missing when he returned home from work last Thursday afternoon.

Sesmas was jailed in Dallas on a Kansas warrant. She has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping charges and her extradition back to Kansas is pending, police said.
