Couple Found Dead on Side of Highway With Their 3 Children in the Car

Police said there was no evidence of foul play.

A Florida couple was found dead on the side of a highway Saturday near their car, which had their three sons inside, police said.

The bodies of Daniel Kelsey, 32, and Heather Kelsey, 30, were found by police just after 2 a.m. outside their SUV, which was parked with its hazard lights on near DeLand City.

Their children, aged 8 months to 4-years-old, were found inside of the car unharmed, according to reports.

Police said it’s not clear what caused the death of the couple but added that there were no signs of foul play.

An investigator with the state Department of Children and Families also responded to the scene, but according to friends, the children are staying with their grandparents.

Jerell Jackson, Daniel Kelsey's friend, described him as a mechanic who did “awesome work on cars” and as a devoted father to his children, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

"I loved Dan like a brother... every time you saw him, you saw his kids," Jackson told the paper.
