The soon-to-be 45th president of the United States has taken to Twitter to call for people to "buy L.L. Bean" after the granddaughter of the clothing company's founder gave him a hefty donation.
On Thursday morning, Donald Trump tweeted his gratitude to Linda Bean for making a contribution to him.
Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage. People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean. @LBPerfectMaine— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 12, 2017
Bean then appeared on Fox and Friends Thursday after Trump's tweet led her grandfather's company to become the target of a boycott and other social media backlash because she donated $60,000 to the Trump campaign.
She told the hosts she was not going to back down from her support of Trump and called those boycotting the brand "bullies."
The company says Linda Bean's donation was purely her own and not necessarily reflective of L.L. Bean.
"L.L. Bean does not endorse political candidates," the company said in a statement. "Simply put, we stay out of politics."
Meanwhile, there have been reports that singer Marie Osmond offered to perform at Trump's Inauguration, which has been having difficulty attracting A-list talent.
But the legendary singer disputed those reports in an interview with Yahoo! Business, echoing L.L. Bean's statement that she prefers to "stay out of politics."
