Just weeks after birth, an endangered baby giraffe has been spotted taking his very first steps in public.

Murchison, a 3-week-old male Rothschild giraffe, could be seen stretching his legs with his herd at the Chester Zoo in England.
"He's really starting to find his feet and explore his habitat," the zoo's giraffe manager, Fiona Howe, said in a statement.
Since his birth, Murchison has been spending quality time with his mom Tula, "who has really taken motherhood in her stride," Howe continued.

The Rothschild giraffe, recognized by their broader white lines and lack of spots beneath their knees, are the world's rarest breed of giraffes, with only 1,600 left in the wild across Africa.
According to the zoo, the giraffe subspecies has been driven to the brink of extinction due to loss of habitat and poaching.
