Paralyzed Bride Learns To Walk

A paralyzed bride-to-be is determined to walk down the aisle at her wedding after being injured in a car accident. INSIDE EDITION talks to the brave woman and her fiancé.

Jen Darmon is getting married next month and she's working hard to do something most brides take for granted: walking down the aisle.

It might sound simple but for Darmon it would be a monumental achievement. She is paralyzed from the waist down.

Two years ago Darmon and her boyfriend Mike Belawetz were heading to the beach with some friends when their minivan was hit head on. It flipped over and over, landing in a field and left a crumpled wreck.

"I remember sitting outside of the van looking down and seeing my legs and realizing they were there and making the connection that I could not feel them or move them anymore," Darmon told INSIDE EDITION.

"It was devastating," said Belawetz

But all was not lost, Belawetz stayed by her side.

When she was finally released from the hospital, her gallant beau got down on one knee and popped the question.

Darmon is working hard three days a week at the Rehab Institute of Michigan so she can make that journey down the aisle.

"I started with crawling. I literally did baby steps and learned how to walk again," Darmon told INSIDE EDITION.

She even practices in a borrowed wedding dress. She wears braces that lock her knees and with that support she can walk. And as if her task wasn't difficult enough, she's also is learning how to dance for her reception.

"My goal is to have my dad on one side and my brother on the other helping me towards Mike at the aisle," Darmon said proudly.

Darmon has been making a video diary of her journey to the wedding. To see it, click here.
